Nick Lockett:

After showing his work ‘Sacred Stones’ a few people have said, that they would like to learn how to light landscapes at night. So we have included a practical session in the program, on the Saturday evening. Bring along your flash guns if you have them.

Martin Shakeshaft:

With modern cameras having the ability to shoot video, Martin will be presenting a session that covers all of the basics, including:

  • Video formats and codecs.
  • Setting up your DSLR for shooting video.
  • Using tripods and sliders.
  • Recording sound.
  • A basic look at editing.

Paul Hill:

Paul will again be performing his greatest hits. Including a session that looks at his latest publication, Corridor of Uncertainty, From initial concepts to publication.

He will also be delivering a rendition of ‘I did it my way’ in the club style!

THE PRACTICALITIES; FOOD AND ACCOMMODATION

The weekend is based at Ilam Hall, a converted 19th century mansion, a few miles from Ashbourne and near Dovedale in the Derbyshire Peak District. There is a brand new café and bar where we will have our evening meals. Packed lunches will be provided. We will be in a large seminar room where we will be able to download pictures and digitally project images for discussion.

Please let us know on the booking form what type of accommodation you would prefer; there are twin bedded and shared four bedrooms. We will do our best to accommodate your preference.

There are several B and Bs and hotels locally for those who do not choose to overnight at Ilam Hall. Let us know and we can give more details.

The ‘Photographers Place’ Returns to Ilam Hall for a Landscape Workshop 6-8th May 2011

By Martin, January 27, 2011 4:15 pm

Paul Hill welcomes participants to the 'Photographers Place' workshop 2010.

After great feedback last year, the Photographers’ Place will be holding another workshop at Ilam Hall, near Ashbourne, Derbyshire from May 6-8th 2011. It begins on the Friday evening, 6th May, through until late afternoon on Sunday, 8th May.

Fees: £325 including all tuition and 2 nights full board

THE SHAPE OF THE WEEKEND

The weekend is intended as an immersion in landscape photography for those who have gone beyond the beginners’ stage and want to learn more about making photographs from an aesthetic as well as from a technical point of view.

The Friday evening session will include a presentation by course leaders followed by opportunity to see samples of work from the group members. You are invited to bring along 2 or 3 of your own edited digital photographs as jpeg files on a memory stick to be shown on a data projector (or prints if you prefer).

Saturday morning will begin with a short session on how to improve your digital capture, understanding histograms and exposures. Then we go out on field trips into the countryside around Ilam, which includes one of Lord Byron’s favourite beauty spots – Dovedale – with one of the course leaders. Groups will be no more than seven people per tutor. At the end of the day there will be an open feedback session in the seminar room after dinner on your selection of images made during the day.

On Sunday there will be a choice of activity: going out to put some of your feedback advice into practise, gathering for a session on post production and publishing photos or getting a portfolio review with Paul Hill. There will be a further ‘wrap up’ session in the seminar room during afternoon tea. We anticipate the weekend finishing at around 4pm.
