We are excited to announce that Stephen McLaren, London street photographer, is our guest speaker for the April weekend workshop.

Guest speaker, Stephen McLaren, an expert on street photography, is coming  along to join the three skilled tutors  on the April 2012 workshop in Derbyshire.  Stephen is fresh from running the Guardian series of street photography sessions in London and is an approachable and enthusiastic teacher. He has also recently edited a well reviewed book on contemporary street photography, ‘Street Photography Now’. He will joining the group on Saturday to show his unique approach to documenting life on the streets and as a source of  advice and inspiration to workshop participants. It is a great opportunity to try out or extend your own ideas on narrative story-telling through photography.

Stephen McLaren – Biography

Stephen McLaren is a specialist on street photography. He is a prolific practitioner, his work is widely published, and he has led street photography workshops in London as part of The Guardian master class series.

He has exhibited his work at Photofusion and Rich Mix Galleries in London, Format Photography Festival in Derby and the Look2011 Photography Festival in Liverpool.

He has curated exhibitions including “Making Space” for the City of London and “On to the Streets” for the British Council which has toured Europe.

Stephen is co-author of the best-selling ‘Street Photography Now’ (Thames & Hudson, October 2010), an inspirational and thought-provoking new book showing the very best of contemporary street photography from around the world.

Stephen McLaren was a television director, cameraman and presenter making documentaries and travel shows for the BBC before digital cameras brought him back to photography.
